These Icelandic noise-merchants nearly burst our eardrums in 2001 with their unrelenting monster of an album ‘Jesus Christ Bobby’. On their debut UK tour in 2002, no band could come close to competing with their intense, invigorating and utterly ear-destroying live performance. We even found them crashed-out on the Rock Sound office floor at the end of that very tour. These days, they’ve refined their sound and easily give the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age a run for their money. New album ‘The Great Northern Whalekill’ (out this week) has a title that pays homage to Pantera and represents the band’s stance on anti-whaling – which Iceland still does to this day. You can catch them touring the UK later this month, make sure you don’t miss out.
