Rock Sound first became hypnotised by 5ive back in 2001 – their debut self-titled album was the only record that would accompany us through many a the late night spent chained to our desks getting the magazine to print. After hearing their incendiary visceral soundscapes, we just knew we had to get the Boston duo of Ben Carr and Charlie Harrold over to UK shores. And we did. In fact, a year after meeting them on their home soil, they were touring the UK with Swiss noise merchants Knut and St Albans metallers Eden Maine. Anyone who witnessed that tour will know what a complete musical headfuck it was.
Well, it’s 2008 and after a long hiatus the 5ive are back with new album ‘Hesperus’ (out now on Tortuga Recordings) - a truly incredible record that sees them raise their game even further. If you’re not acquainted with them yet now’s the time to introduce yourself. Go on… Don’t be shy.
