Fightstar's Charlie Simpson and his brothers, Will Simpson of Brigade and Edd Simpson of Prego, have exclusively revealed to Rock Sound that they're going to form a supergroup.

“We've even got a band name for it,” Will told us. “We'd like to keep it as anonymous as possible, maybe hand Rock Sound a CD without telling them who it is and see if anybody notices! We've been told that there's nothing like brothers' voices harmonising so it'd be interesting to see if that's true.”

However, the name of the band has already been leaked – by Will's brother Edd. “It's a name that Will had for a Brigade song that didn't happen called Once Upon A Dead Man,” he told us.
The three Simpsons have already played together once, at the first Prego gig where Charlie played drums, but they say that one of their motivations for forming the band is to make their mum and dad happy.

“My earliest memory of us playing together was when we made my dad cry!” Will says. “It was his 50th birthday and we surprised him by getting up on stage and we'd learnt (Cat Stevens') 'Father To Son', which is horrendously cheesy but it's a great song. Charlie played drums, Edd played bass and I played guitar, or the other way round. That was really nice. That was quite emotional because my dad was really touched. He'd always wanted to see us three play together.”

However the supergroup won't be happening any time soon. Charlie also revealed that there will be a new Fightstar album before the end of this year and, after that, a solo acoustic record.

“I think the next Fightstar album will be something quite different,” he told us. “My aim is to make something that's the equivalent of what silverchair did with 'Neon Ballroom'. Retain what Fightstar's about but play with a lot of strings and sounds. I'm going to New York next week and after that we're going to start writing and hopefully have the album out by the end of this year. We might be looking at an October release. Then the Simpsons collaboration will probably be 2010. Before that I want to do a solo acoustic album – a sort of Pete Vorn sort of thing. I love doing band stuff but when I get six months off that's something I'd like to do. I've started writing and I've got a kind of idea of what I want it to be about. With Fightstar me and Al write the lyrics together, the first album was our thoughts about society. With a solo thing it's going to be much more personal.”

Will and Edd also want to achieve similar success with their own bands, Brigade and Fightstar, before they form The Simpsons.

“It's important for Will and I that we achieve what we want to achieve in our own right before we do that,” says Edd. “But we were saying when we were doing the (Rock Sound) photo shoot how much fun it'd be to do this kind of thing more often. We'd love to do a band together.”
